Associate Professor Belamy Cheung

Program Manager and Principal Scientist, Children’s Cancer institute

Assoc. Professor Belamy Cheung was awarded $172, 000 in 2023 for her research project, starting in 2024. This innovative research will be jointly funded by Neuroblastoma Australia and Kids’ Cancer Project.

Assoc. Prof. Cheung’s research will investigate a combined treatment targeting the MYNC gene, which has been identified for some time as a key driver of tumour growth.

In the proposed project Assoc. Prof. Cheung’s team aim to further improve the efficacy of this combination therapy, so they can rapidly translate these findings to the clinic and directly benefit children with high-risk and relapsed neuroblastoma.

One third of childhood cancer survivors have a major health problem in young adulthood, and there is an urgent need for new drugs with high specificity for cancer cells and low toxicity for the normal growing tissues of a child. Assoc. Prof. Belamy Cheung
